Trauma is a response to distressing or harmful events that impact your emotional, physical, and psychological health. A traumatic event can be shocking, dangerous, or life-threatening, and these events can overwhelm your nervous system. There are many different types of trauma, including acute trauma, childhood trauma, and complex trauma, all of which can lead to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Trauma can also occur as a result of domestic violence, natural disasters, acute events, grief, and loss of a loved one.
Unresolved traumatic experiences can continue to affect your mental, emotional, and physical well-being long after the event has occurred. Professional support provides a safe space to process what happened, reduce distressing symptoms, and develop healthier coping strategies. Without treatment, trauma can contribute to anxiety, depression, or substance use, making daily life more challenging. Reaching out for help allows you to regain a sense of control, build resilience, and move forward with greater stability and confidence.
Exposure to trauma overwhelms your nervous system and results in changes to your cognition, reducing cognitive abilities. These changes make it difficult to think clearly or make decisions.
Trauma greatly impacts mental health and results in many symptoms related to your emotional health. Emotional health symptoms commonly include numbness, anxiety, flashbacks, intrusive thoughts of traumatic memories, and mood swings. Symptoms can vary depending on the type of trauma and previous mental health challenges.
Experiencing a traumatic event overwhelms your nervous system, triggering a response of fight, flight, or freeze. As a result of being overwhelmed, you end up in survival mode. Symptoms of this nervous system response include anxiety, restlessness, and difficulty sleeping. If you find yourself frozen, you will likely experience numbness or detachment.
At Sage Recovery & Wellness Center, we offer trauma treatment to help you heal and learn coping skills to apply in your daily life. Trauma is treatable, and you can succeed in long-term recovery of your mental, physical, and psychological health.

Multiple visits can be expected based on your needs, level of care, and how you are adjusting to any medication changes.
Our team will communicate with your existing outside providers during treatment and assist you in scheduling follow-up appointments post-treatment. If additional providers are needed, our team will help you find the best fit.

At Sage Recovery & Wellness Center, we offer a full continuum of care between two in-person locations, the Recovery Villa and Westlake Center. All of our programs provide care that aids in long-term trauma recovery.
Located at our Recovery Villa, residential treatment is available for adults, families, and professionals. We offer private luxury accommodations and a high level of structure and support. The typical treatment duration is 35 days, with the option to extend up to 60 days as needed. Residential treatment is ideal for those who would benefit from a highly structured treatment program.
Our partial hospitalization program (PHP), also offered at our Recovery Villa, is available to adults, families, and professionals. PHP allows you to live at home while attending a highly structured treatment program. The typical treatment duration is 35 days, with the option to extend up to 60 days as needed.
Compared to residential treatment or PHP, our intensive outpatient program (IOP) offers greater flexibility. Offered at Westlake Center for adults, families, professionals, and adolescents, IOP works well if you need flexibility to manage outside responsibilities. While IOP offers a higher degree of flexibility, it still offers structure, support, and care for trauma.
General outpatient treatment and individual therapy are offered at Westlake Center for adults, families, adolescents, and professionals. Individual therapy offers the lowest amount of support and is ideal for individuals who are transitioning back into life after residential treatment or PHP.
At Sage Recovery & Wellness Center, we offer evidence-based therapies that support you in your recovery journey.
In trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), you gain awareness of patterns in your thoughts, feelings, and actions. In psychotherapy, you work with a clinician to identify these patterns and build more effective thought patterns that serve as positive coping mechanisms in daily life.
We offer mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) as part of trauma treatment to prevent recurring negative emotional patterns after trauma. As a group therapy, MBCT combines techniques of CBT with mindfulness meditation that helps to reset your nervous system and build lasting coping skills for improved mental health.
Many emotions are felt in the body, and somatic experiencing helps you tune into the physical shifts triggered by trauma. We offer somatic experiencing as part of our trauma treatment program to improve trauma processing and promote long-term recovery.
In acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), you work with a clinician to increase awareness of the root causes of your trauma response and why change is important to you. By identifying these aspects, ACT helps to promote change and growth in treatment.
At Sage Recovery & Wellness Center, we use motivational interviewing to help you learn more about your experience and why change is valuable to you. It is a tool that helps you improve self-awareness and growth.
At Sage Recovery & Wellness Center, we offer dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) as a part of trauma treatment. DBT is a form of talk therapy that helps you to balance acceptance with change. It includes exposure therapy and helps you build emotional regulation skills.
At Sage Recovery & Wellness Center, we address not just psychological symptoms of trauma, but also physical health, emotional balance, and social well-being. Our integrated approach of holistic care and evidence-based mental health care helps regulate the nervous system, strengthen coping skills, and promote lasting healing. By treating the individual as a whole, clients are better equipped to achieve sustainable recovery and an improved quality of life.
