Dr. Cole Weatherby has been a member of the Sage Recovery family since 2013 when the company was being founded. He has served as medical director for the past several years and assisted in the development of medical and clinical polices for the IOP, PHP and residential programs. He continues to provide supervision and clinical consultation for Sage’s nurse practitioners and clinical staff.
Dr. Weatherby is originally from the small town of Lillian, TX. He attended college at Austin College and medical school at the University of North Texas Health Science Center – Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency in psychiatry at the UT Southwestern Seton Family of Hospitals in 2012. He is a strong advocate for holistic, whole-person, patient-centered care and embraces treatments from a range of therapeutic traditions including allopathic and osteopathic medicine, eastern traditional practices and more modern approaches such as nutritional psychiatry, brain health, mindfulness and third wave psychotherapies (MBCT, ACT, DBT, etc.).
He believes in a non-dogmatic, personalized approach to addiction medicine that does its best to meet clients where they are and is a proponent of 12-step alternatives and medication assisted therapy (MAT). Dr. Weatherby is also a pilot and FAA-designated aviation medical examiner and specializes in aviation psychiatric assessment. He is also involved with teaching psychiatry residents at the Dell Seton Psychiatry Program. When not practicing medicine, he can be found spending time with his wife and friends, flying, playing guitar, singing, hiking or cooking.
