acu correct photoThousands of behavioral health treatment and criminal justice programs worldwide offer ear acupuncture using the NADA protocol to support the treatment and recovery process as well as disaster/trauma response interventions. NADA strives to make acudetox-based, barrier-free behavioral health treatment accessible in all communities and to ensure its integration with other treatment modalities.

Behavioral health treatment professionals, Western medical and Oriental medical practitioners may learn the NADA protocol in 70 hours, divided into didactic and clinical competency-building experiences. This three-day hands-on training towards certificate provides a mixture of both. In addition to this training, in order to receive a NADA Acudetox Specialist certificate of training completion, trainees will have to document completion of additional homework, 12 step meeting attendance and 40 supervised treatments. (The trainer will work with trainees to facilitate clinical opportunities.)

Texas law allows for the following licensed professionals to cross-train as Certified Acu Detox Specialists to treat “substance abuse” under physician or acupuncturist supervision: Social Workers, Nurses, Counselors (LCDCs, LPCs), and Psychologists. Those practitioners must apply separately to the Texas Medical Board for certification upon getting a NADA certificate of completion.
