More Than Intensive Outpatient Services

By Emily Keefer, LMSW, LCDC-i

Despite being known as an Intensive Outpatient (IOP) group therapy provider, Sage Recovery & Wellness Center also offers a full spectrum of supportive services for wellness, including individual therapy, acu detox and yoga therapy. Clients can participate in any of our services, without being enrolled in the IOP program. Individuals are free to pick and choose, a la carte, their specialized selection of supportive services, after completing a complimentary assessment.

For individuals enrolled in our IOP program, the following services are an integral part to the therapeutic process. IOP clients will participate weekly in Acudetox, yoga therapy and individual therapy. For our IOP clients who are already working with an outside individual therapist, we encourage the client to maintain that relationship and continue working with their established therapist.

Individual Therapy (sometimes called counseling or psychotherapy)
Individual therapy is a one-on-one 50 or 80 minute session with a Master level therapist in a safe, caring and confidential environment that allows space to explore and work through feelings, belief, behaviors, thoughts, and influential memories. People seek therapy for a variety of reasons, including but not limited to, identifying and working towards desired change, set personal goals, cope with major life challenges or trauma, and dealing with mental health diagnoses. The client and therapist will work together to identify the specific target area and create specific goals around issues.  Sage’s dual diagnosis therapists specialize in a number of treatment areas, including trauma work and Somatic Experiencing in relation to substance use.

Yoga Therapy
Yoga Therapy promotes wellness through encompassing a physical, psychological, and spiritual healing. Traditional yoga positions, breathing exercises, and relaxation/meditation techniques are used to explore psychological issues to create a pathway to inner and outer balance. It can be particularly helpful with chronic conditions included but not limited to mental health concerns, addiction, and chronic pain.  Session are offered in a group setting as well as individually in a 50 minute timeslot. Individually, clients will work with a trained master level clinician who is also a certified yoga teacher to set clear expectations and goals for treatment. These session include talk therapy around thoughts or emotions that come up during physical sequences. In a group setting, clients will be teach a sequences and be provided with education on the significance of the movement, however, the processing of thoughts and emotions are limited, if at all.

 Acudetox
A trained Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist applies fine gauge, sterilized, one-time use stainless steel needles just under the skin in five designated ear points in each ear. A typical session includes placement of the needles to which they remain in the ear for 30-45 minutes. Clients will receive treatment while seated in a group. Some of the benefits reported by clients and clinicians are “a more optimistic and cooperative attitude towards the process of recovery, reduction in cravings, anxiety, and sleep disturbance, and less need for pharmaceuticals”.
