Cost: FREE
CEU: 3 CEUs
Location:Sage Recovery & Wellness Center at 7004 Bee Caves Rd, Bldg 2, Suite 200

WHAT TO EXPECT:
CEU Presentation Description:
Ecotherapy allows clinicians a framework in which to offer nature-based therapies to their clients. Decades of research clearly demonstrates the positive affect nature has on mental (and physical) health, and integrating a nature-based approach into treatment allows clinicians a unique and more holistic view into their client’s internal world. This presentation will: define what ecotherapy is, introduce some of the salient research on how nature affects the brain and overall wellness, clinical considerations for integrating ecotherapy into practice, and practical, concrete ideas for beginning to offer ecotherapy to clients.
Note from our speaker: This presentation will include an experiential exercise outside, weather permitting. Please dress for comfort (indoors and outdoors) so that you can relax and enjoy both the didactic and experiential components. The experiential exercise may include light walking and sitting in either sun or shade. Sage Recovery has an expansive wooden back deck overlooking the hill country views and surrounded by large trees. A peaceful environment that will provide us the space to focus on connection with nature and how it can help you find compassion and caring for yourselves as therapists. In addition, the experiential part will help you get a sense of how ecotherapy works and what it might feel like for clients to experience ecotherapy. For your own comfort, please feel free to wear comfortable clothes and shoes if you are able. You may wish to bring a light jacket, sunscreen, comfortable shoes or other items to maximize your comfort.

About Our Speaker: Amy Sugeno, LCSW
Amy Sugeno, LCSW, got her start as a wildlife biologist, studying a variety of species, mostly birds and bats. Over those 16 years, she consistently noticed how healing and restorative nature and the outdoors can be for people. Now a therapist, Amy integrates ecotherapy, or nature-based therapies, into the healing process of her clients. She has worked at non-profit agencies for the past 10 years with adults and older teens affected by domestic violence and sexual abuse. More recently, Amy has opened a small private practice in Marble Falls, Texas, where she provides ecotherapy to individuals and small groups, and particularly enjoys working with issues around adoption and attachment trauma.
