Addressing Trauma in Addiction

At Sage Recovery and Wellness Center, we work with clients to treat them holistically. This includes weaving trauma informed care into every facet of the program. So many of our clients are affected by trauma; we recognize that their addiction did not begin in a vacuum. We believe that if we are not effectively treating their trauma, then we are not effectively treating their addiction.

We are known for our comprehensive assessments, individual psychotherapy, and multiple Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs). We currently have five IOPs for specifically targeted issues, including distinct groups for Dual Diagnosis clients and those seeking Mental Health treatment alone. We also offer a Dual Diagnosis DBT group for those needing additional assistance with emotion regulation and who experience chronic relapse, and an Adolescent Mental Health IOP with heavy family involvement.

We offer additional evidence-based treatment services weekly, including Yoga Therapy, Acupuncture Detox, Qigong, and psychotherapy and skills-based groups. We work to establish a sense of safety in our groups with the use of respectful communication and transparency in treatment planning. Keeping the therapist-led groups closed, as opposed to open admission, has also helped group member feel more safe since they have a better idea about who will be attending and can build connections with others in their group. We felt it was also important for us to empower clients by letting them know that we trust them, and they now successfully lead their own alumni group.

Furthermore, we recently added a new therapist to our team, Molly Simpson, LCSW, LCDC, who is trained in EMDR and can do even more to incorporate trauma-informed care into our programs. Sage’s dedication to serving individual client needs is reflected in the many services we now offer as a result of client feedback and request. We work hard to meet the needs of our community and welcome any feedback or requests for services we do not currently offer. Please let us know how we can help you, your clients, or your loved ones!
